Spinal Decompression Therapy
Nonsurgical spinal decompression is a type of motorized traction that may help relieve back pain. Spinal decompression works by gently stretching the spine. That changes the force and position of the spine. This change takes pressure off the spinal disks, which are gel-like cushions between the bones in your spine, by creating negative pressure in the disc. As a result, bulging or herniated disks may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. This in turn, helps promote movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the disks so they can heal.

Acupuncture for Arthritis
“There’s a lot of research that says when we put an acupuncture needle into the body, a number of physiological mechanisms occurs,” says Brian Berman, MD, professor of family and community medicine and director of the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. A well-placed needle sets off a cascade of events, Dr. Berman explains, producing a signal that travels along the spinal cord to the brain, triggering a release of neurotransmitters called endorphins and enkephalins, which scientists believe reduce the sensation of pain. Research also shows that inserting an acupuncture needle induces the production of cortisol, a hormone that helps control inflammation. Acupuncture may stimulate activity of other pain-relieving chemicals in the body as well.

What Is A Synbiotic?

Synbiotics are mixtures of probiotics (helpful gut bacteria) and prebiotics (non-digestible fibers that help these bacteria grow). Specifically, they're combinations of these two things that work together (synergistically) in your digestive tract.
The idea behind synbiotics is that the prebiotics help the probiotics survive in your intestines. This could help balance your gut bacteria, which is thought to benefit your gut health, metabolism, and immune system.

Acupuncture in Sports Medicine
Acupuncture is one of the more popular types of complementary medicine that athletes use to help control pain, hasten recovery, and treat injury. Acupuncture is also used to treat conditions unrelated to sports participation, such as migraine headache and dysmenorrhea. A recent large-scale survey of Americans' use of complementary and alternative medicine therapies indicated that acupuncture is one of the most utilized forms of complementary medicine.

Individual large-scale clinical studies have consistently demonstrated that acupuncture provided better pain relief compared with usual care. However, most studies also showed little difference between real and sham (fake) acupuncture. In order to address this concern, a 2012 meta-analysis combined data from roughly 18,000 individual patients in 23 high-quality randomized controlled trials of acupuncture for common pain conditions. This analysis conclusively demonstrated that acupuncture is superior to sham for low back pain, headache, and osteoarthritis, and improvements seen were similar to that of other widely used non-opiate pain relievers.

Anti Inflammatory Diet
While there isn’t one specific anti-inflammatory diet, Snead emphasizes that overall healthy eating patterns can help you get rid of inflammation and stay healthier. In particular, she recommends some food types that can help bring inflammation down:
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants help address cellular wear and tear that can set off inflammation.
Polyphenols are naturally occurring compounds in these foods that protect the body from inflammation.

Stretching For Better Health

Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.
